Baby Basics Shoreham

Baby Basics Shoreham provides Moses Basket Starter Packs to mums and newborns across Shoreham and Worthing in collaboration with community midwives, our local Family Hubs and the Maternity Ward at Worthing Hospital. Every basket is curated by our team of fantastic volunteers who are passionate about helping newborns and families in need.

About Us

Working closely with midwives, health visitors, and our local Family Hubs, we provide essential support for new mothers facing hardship of any kind—teenage mums, asylum seekers, and women fleeing domestic violence or trafficking.

Our Moses baskets provide a safe space for babies to sleep in. Our Moses Basket Starter Packs also include nappies, wipes, maternity pads, blankets, towels, and baby clothes. Many of the women we help have no support network, so the care and kindness behind every donated and handmade item mean the world.

Inspired by Matthew 25:40 – ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ – we believe in showing God’s love through practical care for the most vulnerable. We are here to serve and to ensure that every mother in crisis knows she is seen, valued and not alone.

Our volunteers meet every two weeks At the Oasis to prepare Moses Basket Starter Packs and to sort through donations.

Our donation drop-off point is located at The Shoreham Centre 2 Pond Road, Shoreham-by-Sea, BN43 5WU and it’s open Mon – Fri 9am – 4pm.

Please read our donation lists below for the things we need!

Our team of volunteers came together in 2024 with a desire to bless mums and newborns in need in Shoreham and the Adur region.

We meet every couple of weeks to pack baskets, stock check, sort through donations and have fun!

We are always open to new volunteers, monetary gifts, and new & pre-loved donations,. We love seeing the community come together to support those in need. Whether packing items, washing clothes, sorting donations, or delivering much-needed baskets, we give our time and energy with joy—because every mum and baby deserves to feel valued and supported.

Requesting a Moses Basket Starter Pack from Baby Basics Shoreham is very simple…

Families

We provide Moses Basket Starter Packs with essential baby items, clothing (0-3 months), and toiletries free of charge to families experiencing hardship. To ensure we reach those most in need, requests must come from a professional supporting the family, rather than directly from individuals.

Make a Referral

If you are Midwife, Health Visitor or other professional and know a family who could benefit, here’s what to do:

  1. Ask the family if they would like to receive support from Baby Basics Shoreham.
  2. Contact our team by emailing babybasicsshoreham@weareemmanuel.com
  3. Provide the following details:
    • Your details: Name, agency, and contact information.
    • Family’s details: Name, baby’s due date, and gender (if known).
    • Additional information: Anything else that might help us support them better.

We’ll arrange a collection date with you, and items will need to be delivered to the family by the referrer or another professional, as we are unable to offer a delivery service.

Where possible, we aim to have the pack ready at least 8 weeks before the baby is due so the family has time to prepare. Early referrals are greatly appreciated!

Currently (Spring 2025) we don’t have room to store larger items such as buggies, cots and other equipment. However, we know several other charities working in the area and we’ll happily send you in the right direction to re-home your pre-loved equipment to families in need in Shoreham and the surrounding area.
