Baby Basics Jersey
Baby Basics Jersey was set up in 2023 as a mission out of St Marks Church in Jersey.
Our centre is run by, for and with our local island community.
How does it work?
Local health and social care professionals, who work with families in our community, identify a need for our service and complete a referral form. Our team of volunteers at our centre then prepare customised packs, that are then collected by the supporting agency for delivery directly to the family.
Getting help to where it is directly needed through the generous donation of preloved items from local families, financial gifts or handmade items from local community groups, as well as our committed group of volunteers who give their time to serve families in this way.
About Us
What we provide?
We provide essential items to families to relieve some of the financial pressures of having a baby and to offer a safe place for babies to sleep in their early days. Our packs aim to carry a simple message – that each parent and their baby are valued, unique and deserve the best possible start in life.
What is our mission?
- to ease the burden on expectant parents at a vulnerable time
- to provide a safe place for babies to sleep in their first few months
- to remind parents that they and their baby are wonderfully made
- to ensure that quality, care and dignity are at the heart of everything that we do
- to continue to reach more families through expanding the items we provide and increasing our referral partners
Meet the Team
We have a incredible group of volunteers who make Baby Basics possible. These include our weekly and monthly teams that come together to sort, wash, iron and pack Baskets for families in our local community.
Get Help
Families are referred to Baby Basics by health or social care professional. The eligibility for this service is simply the professional’s own assessment of need for the family they are supporting.
Families
In addition to financial vulnerability, the project aims to support or reduce risks associated with the following:
- Where a parent’s mental health is a barrier to being able to gather necessary items for the baby;
- A baby is in a temporary care arrangement and the carer requires additional baby items;
- A parent has left an unsafe environment and therefore requires material support.
