Apple Blossom Baby Basics ~ Mullavilly

Apple Blossom Baby Basics is situated in

‘The Orchard County’, Co. Armagh in Northern Ireland and also in the Diocese of Armagh.

It is a volunteer-led project aiming to support new mothers and families who are struggling to meet the financial and practical burden of looking after a new baby.

We began in 2019 and the demand for our help and resources have increased dramatically since then.

We provide much needed essentials and equipment to mothers and families who are unable to provide these items for themselves; this includes, but not limited to, teenage mums, people seeking asylum, women fleeing domestic abuse and trafficking and families who are in severe financial need.

About Us

We are a small team of volunteers, all who fulfil different roles, and coming together to support one another as needed.  We have those who take home items to wash and iron that have been donated.

There are those who come to sort and pack items into boxes to store them, and there are those who have been trained to pack a basket/bath for a referral.

There are also a number of other groups who support us, our local Knit and Natter Group and other craft groups who crochet or knit items we can use, local schools who raise funds for us or donate items and other community and charity shops who help us to source larger equipment such as prams or high chairs.

Our Team work with various Professional Referral Agencies E.g. Sure Start, HSSCT, Midwives through local GP and Health Centres, Salvation Army, Woman’s Aid, Tiny Life, Twins Trust, Local Councillors and Members of the Northern Ireland Local Assembly (MLAs) and with the Parishes and Rectors in their respective Dioceses and alongside other churches.

Apple Blossom Baby Basics has two maternity units in our region, Craigavon Area Hospital and Daisy Hill Hospital, Newry, and we also get referrals through these maternity units and their midwives.

Donating secondhand items

Good quality second hand clothes, blankets and bedding for babies up to 1 year old are accepted.

Knitted / crocheted blankets, cardigans, etc accepted.

Moses Baskets / Baby Baths always needed.

Pram systems / Buggies, high chairs, cots are also accepted but sometimes we ask people to store these until they are required due to space restrictions.

We do keep a very small selection of clothes suitable for slightly older siblings but due to space and storage we are not able to store large amounts.

Donations of items for our baskets

Agile

Donating equipment

Contact the team on the mobile number to seek advice on items and delivery of these.

Bold

Donating new items

New items are always accepted, especially Moses Baskets, Baths, and toiletries etc.

Nappies of all sizes accepted especially the smaller sizes for new borns

Donating financially

Regular or one-off

Any financial contributions will go to buy a brand new mattress for every Moses Basket we use  for a referral.

We never send a Moses Basket out with a pre-used mattress.

It would also help with our monthly subscription costs, and heat and light contribution for the use of the premises.

We also required finance to cover the costs of the contact Mobile phone and other overheads such as cleaning materials, washing powder, bin bags, craft items for our knitters, and promotional items.

How can you get involved?

Apple Blossom Baby Basics Team are a small, but happy and very busy, band of volunteers.

However, we are always looking for help to assist in a lot of the preparation work for these referrals.

If you can give just an hour from time to time, that would be greatly appreciated.

Just contact us and we will be happy to chat to you and show you around and tell you what we do.
