Baby Basics Wrexham

Baby Basics Wrexham is a volunteer-led project aiming to support new mothers and families who are struggling to meet the financial and practical burden of looking after a new baby. We work closely with local healthcare professionals and other agencies to ensure that the most vulnerable in the communities in and around Wrexham are provided for. Baby Basics Wrexham provides much needed essentials and equipment to mothers and families who are unable to provide these items for themselves; including but not limited to teenage mums, people seeking asylum and women fleeing domestic abuse and trafficking.

About Us

Baby Basics Wrexham is a volunteer-led project which was started by a local mum and teacher, Sarah Davies, along with support from many at Christ Church during the pandemic in 2021 in the Priory Centre. She loved the Baby Basics model and we joined the network. In February 2021 our first hamper went out and we have slow increased our number of referrals and referrers over the years.

In 2023, Sarah Opper took on the role of Centre Manager when our founder moved to another part of Wales. The oversight of the project moved from Christ Church to Community Church at this point as well.

In 2024, we moved from our original location in the city centre to the heart of our largest estate – in a collection of buildings, one of which is the central working point for many midwives and health visitors in Wrexham. We are grateful for the proximity to referrers, convenient parking and ground floor work space this new location enjoys.

BBW started with a small team from the church and now we have over 10 regular volunteers and make up 10-15 hampers per month. The volunteers have such a lovely time sorting out the baby clothing and making the hampers look like beautiful gifts – it’s a joyful atmosphere every Monday morning.

We are located at Caia Park Partnership, Blue Building, Wrexham LL13 8TH. We are open for donations Monday 9.30 – 11.30.

How can you get involved?

Besides donating your preloved clothing & baby items, buying new toiletries or purchasing new items from our Amazon wishlist, you can get involved in a number of other ways!

The main need is for people who can come in once a month on a Monday morning.

  • Volunteer – Come and join our friendly team make up referral bundles, sort donations and more. Most volunteers need to be able to lift tubs of clothing off shelving but adaptations can be made.

If you can’t help on a Monday and need a more flexible time commitment, we need volunteers who…

  • Wash – Do you enjoy washing clothing? These volunteers can collect clothing in need of a freshen up and bring them back clean and sorted by size.
  • Iron – Do you enjoy ironing? We’ve heard that some people do :) We’re looking for people to collect clothing from us, iron it and return it.
  • Pick up items locally – we occasionally receive requests for items to be picked up and brought to us, for example of the donor doesn’t drive.
  • Knit & Crochet – We love giving out homemade items such as blankets, cardigans, booties and hats. We have specific requirements for what we are able to accept so please get in touch.

If you prefer to get involved in a more one-off or distanced way, then you could…

  • Donation drive – Organise your office/school/community to do a donation drive for items and financial gifts
  • Social Media – Like our Facebook or Instagram page and share our posts. This actually helps us out a lot more than you’d think!
  • Fundraising – We can support anyone who would like to fundraise for us.
